Spanish Theory Test Result: How to Check It on miDGT and the DGT Online Office

If you took the theory test on a computer, the result is available the same afternoon, from 17:00, on the DGT online office (sede electrónica). If the theory test was on paper, or if you are looking for the result of a practical test, it is published the next day, also from 17:00.

There is also a faster option. Since March 2024, the miDGT app has shown the theory test result about an hour after you finish the exam. To use it, you need to be registered with Cl@ve.

Checking results on the DGT online office (sede electrónica) is a free procedure. To find your exam you need four details: your DNI or NIE, your date of birth, the licence class you took the exam for, and the exam date.

Follow these steps:

1. Have the four details above to hand and check that they match your application.
2. Go to the DGT online office (sede.dgt.gob.es) and open the exam results section.
3. Fill in the form with your details.
4. Wait until the publication time: from 17:00 on the day of the exam if it was on a computer.
5. Check your result and save a screenshot, because results are only published for 15 days.

If one detail does not match your application exactly, the system will not show your exam. Pay particular attention to the date and the licence class before you try again.

The miDGT app shows your theory test result about an hour after you take the test. It is the fastest way to find out whether you passed, but it has one requirement: you must be registered with Cl@ve.

The DGT lets you register with Cl@ve at the Jefaturas on the day of your exam. According to the DGT, registration started as a pilot in Bilbao and Zaragoza and has been extended gradually to other provinces, so not every office offers it yet. It is safest to register before exam day rather than on the day itself.

The DGT also notes that the app does not show results for every licence type. For example, it is not available for dangerous goods (mercancías peligrosas) or for recovering a licence after it has lapsed.

If your result does not appear after the publication time, first check the details you entered. Then make sure no more than 15 days have passed since the exam, because after that the result is no longer shown.

If everything is correct and it still does not appear, the DGT recommends going to your driving school and explaining your situation. The driving school can report the problem to the DGT. If you took the exam as a private candidate (por libre), contact the Provincial Traffic Office (Jefatura Provincial de Tráfico) where you took the exam.

Passing the theory test does not give you the licence yet. A passed theory test is valid for two years, and within that time you must also pass the practical test. If you do not do so in time, you will have to sit all the tests again.

When you have passed all the tests, the DGT says the final licence should reach your home within a maximum of a month and a half. In the meantime, your driving school will let you know you have passed and will provide a temporary licence (permiso provisional).

If you failed, remember that fee 2.1 (tasa 2.1), €94.05, covers two attempts. After one failed attempt, you have one left.

To pass the theory test, you can make a maximum of 3 errors across the 30 questions. If you go over that limit, the result is not passed (no apto) and one of your two attempts is used up.

The most useful step after a fail is to review which topics caught you out and practise them before your next attempt. Timed mock tests of 30 questions in 30 minutes, with every mistake reviewed, help you spot patterns. Signs, right of way, speed limits and documentation are often the areas where people go wrong.
